Microsoft launches Lumia 430, 640 and 640XL in Kenya

Microsoft Mobile Devices has released a new range of Lumia phones — the Lumia 430 Dual SIM,  Lumia 640 and Lumia 640XL in the Kenyan market.

Telling from the device specs, Microsoft aims to meet the needs of first-time smartphone owners and those that seek to upgrade from entry-level smartphones with these devices.

“People around the world have responded enthusiastically to our affordable Lumia range. We continue to invest in this segment to ensure that as many consumers as possible can enjoy signature Microsoft experiences, regardless of budget,” Mariam Abdullahi, Microsoft General Manager for East Africa said during the launch.

The Lumia 640 become the latest LTE / 4G smart devices to join the Lumia portfolio in Kenya.  Lumia 640 runs on Microsoft Windows Phone 8.1 with Lumia Denim and sports a 5.0″, IPS capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels (~294 ppi pixel density). The phone comes with Quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7, 8 GB internal memory, 1 GB RAM, 8/1MP back and front cameras and runs on Li-Ion 2500 mAh battery.

The Lumia 640XL is similar to the 640 but is a 3G device with a lot bigger display of 5.7 inches, bigger cameras of 13/5MP back and front and a bigger battery of Li-Ion 3000 mAh battery.

Lumia 430 Dual Sim has smaller specs. It comes with a 4.0″ display with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels (~235 ppi pixel density). It packs 8 GB internal memory, 1 GB RAM, smaller camera specs of 2MP/VGA back and front cams and runs on Li-Ion 1500 mAh battery.

Price

The Lumia 430 will go for a price of Kshs 8,850 while the Lumia  640 and 640L will retail at a price of Kshs 19,999 and Kshs 25,750 respectively in Kenya.
