For the first time ever, 1 billion people used Facebook in a single day

On Monday, 1 in 7 people on Earth used Facebook to connect with their friends and family. Mark Zuckerberg announced the milestone through a Facebook post.

The social networking giant has witnessed steady growth over time since its inception in 2004. With an average user base of about 1.2 billion, the social network holds the spot as the biggest social network.

Mark Zuckerberg is passionate about connecting the remaining two-thirds of the world’s population who are not connected to the internet. Through partners such as Qualcomm, Samsung and others, internet.org is an ambitious mission poised at serving internet to the last mile. So far internet.org is in 17 countries and they’re emerging markets: Asia and Africa.

On Monday, 1 in 7 people on Earth used Facebook to connect with their friends and family.

When we talk about our financials, we use average numbers, but this is different. This was the first time we reached this milestone, and it’s just the beginning of connecting the whole world.

I’m so proud of our community for the progress we’ve made. Our community stands for giving every person a voice, for promoting understanding and for including everyone in the opportunities of our modern world.
