You have probably heard about Alibaba, the Chinese e-commerce company that provides consumer-to-consumer, business-to-consumer and business-to-business sales services via web portals. In simpler speech, online shopping.
Now say hello to the African version, Afribaba. Just when we thought the online classifieds space is saturated with the likes of Olx, Kupatana, Vendito, MoboFree, Eyetrade, several Facebook e-commerce groups, another pan-African e-commerce startup steps in.
Afribaba is an online classified sites that allows users to post Ads for free across several categories such as Cars & Vehicles, Electronics, real estate, Fashion, Jobs among others.
The company has registered domains across the continent in over 50 English and French speaking countries. In Uganda, the online classified site is trading as afribaba.ug with only a few listings to get the wheels spinning. Users will soon start posting items for buying and selling on the website. At the time of this writing, the website doesn’t seem to have mobile Apps for its users.
Afribaba is here for serious business. The internet business confirmed to Techmoran that it has completed it’s funding deal with Frontier Digital Ventures to expand across French-West Africa.
Naspers-backed OLX, Rocket Internet-backed Vendito, One Africa Media’s Checki will surely give Afribaba a warm welcome to the African e-commerce space.
