Startimes App Review: Self service, TV guide, free online Video and Matches

As the competition in the digital TV sector becomes more stiff so does the innovation. Startimes has launched a mobile app that works across all their 15  countries of operation in Africa. The well designed app allows you to sign up using your email, phone number or social media. If you are to access full functionality of the app, you will have to signup and login.

We didn’t actually experience the full potential of the app since we do not have a startimes decoder but we played around with it and made a couple of observations. You can download the Startimes app and test it out too.

What you can do with the App

Access the EPG: The first we saw and liked is that you can access the Electronic Program Guide (EPG) that will list all your programs so you can plan your viewing. The app also allowed us to set program reminders for our favorite programs.

Free online video and Live matches: Watch, program trailers, Bundesliga and Seria A matches for FREE

Self-service: Recharge ,change bouquet, check balance and expiry dates. (We didn’t actually pay for a bouquet so we cannot affirm the functionality of the feature yet)

Chat within the app: There is also a chat feature where viewers can chat about particular programming but the feature didn’t seem to be popular among users.

Startimes Coin Rewards: To get as many people to use the app, startimes allows you to invite your friends to download  and use the app and get Ugx 1000 recharge coupon which you can use to recharge or renew your bouquet. Further, Startimes rewards users with coins for interacting with the app. These coins can be redeemed for real startimes products.

Contact the Call Center: Unfortunately, this just redirects you to your dialer to call a number that is not toll free. That sucks.

What we would have wanted:

  • More content to watch from the app and the chance to watch my programs from the app and not at home.
  • Contact customer care (either toll free ) and get feedback using the app and not call using my credit/airtime.
  • Not everyone owns an Android phone so they need to create a Windows and iOS app
