7 mobile apps that let you pay bills in Uganda

Oscar Wilde once said “A man who pays his bills on time is soon forgotten.”. But King Solomon also said “The rich rules over the poor, And the borrower becomes the lender’s slave.”.  Paying bills is part of life and a sign of responsibility in our society. But paying the bills sometimes doesn’t come easy; long lines, heavy charges, and time.

The mobile phone has revolutionized everything — including paying your bills. You can now pay for airtime, data, water, electricity, movie tickets, bus tickets, event tickets and even 3rd party insurance using mobile Apps. These apps use your mobile money or your visa debit card to make cashless transactions possible. Here are 7 apps  and websites for paying bills online in Uganda.

Xente

Xente, a creation of Intel world is a platform available on both web and mobile that helps you purchase airtime, data, tickets and pay for your electricity bill. Xente is really easy to use and accepts your Visa debit card as well as MTN Mobile money and Airtel money as payment options.

Chap Chap

ChapChap is another mobile payments platform where you can pay bills on the go. You can purchase airtime as well as data and also pay for your Umeme Yaka with Chap chap. Chap chap also has reward program where earn points for each new user you refer.

Payway

Payway has been their  king of offline payments thanks to their wide agent network and sleek payment kiosks. With their web kiosk, you can top-up airtime, mobile data and also pay for electricity, Pay TV and event tickets. Payway is yet to release a mobile app, though we have intel that they are definitely working on one.

Poketi

Poketi does pretty much what everyone else is doing; purchase airtime, data and pay utility bills from your mobile money account. However, it also has remittance feature where you can receive cash from any country in the world directly on your mobile phones.  Poketi also says they provide SACCOs/Cooperatives in Uganda with a free Cooperative Banking Software that is fully integrated with POKETI, so that their SACCO members can be able to deposit, withdraw, check balance and all major SACCO transactions using POKETI.

Yodime

YoDime,  a product of Egora limited is a web application that allows merchants to recieve payments for what ever good or service being sold. However, they also have  personal accounts where registered user can  pay for any good and service with merchants that have intergrated with YoDime.

Pay it

Pay it available across 5 countries including Uganda is another mobile app with both Android and iOS versions that enable you top-up your mobile credit, data and pay for your electricity and water. Pay it says they have a customer care line that’s available 24/7 just in case you run into issues.

EasyPay

Available on the web, iOS and Android, EasyPay is digital wallet that lets you make electronic commerce transactions. Easypay covers the basics; airtime, data, electricity. However, they also have features that support bulk payments, crowd funding and ticket payments.

Safeboda

Ride hailing app Safeboda is the latest app to offer purchase of Airtime. Safeboda announced on 22nd July 2019 that their users will now be able to purchase Airtime across networks from within the App.
