QN: E-Commerce is developing sector in Uganda what are some of the challenges you are facing and how are you overcoming them?

Every country is different and has its own dynamics. The biggest challenge in Uganda has been to find the location of our customers because there is no clear address and location system in Uganda. We approached this pragmatically when we partnered with Tugende to power our delivery fleet that has  extensive knowledge of the local area to ensure a fuss-free system that aims to provide the best possible customer experience and get food delivered fast.

foodpanda was launched in March 2012 in Singapore and expanded into 16 countries by the end of the year. This was followed by an expansion into seven more countries, to make a total of 23, by February 2013. The company stated that it aimed to move into 40 nations in Asia, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and Africa by the end of Q1 2014 and did achieve this.

We started in Nigeria one and a half years ago.  we came to Uganda in January 2013 and have enjoyed a great reception from both users and restaurant owners in Uganda, which I think demonstrates that the region is more than ready to embrace e-commerce and hellofood. We have signed up 40 restaurants so far and are constantly adding new restaurants to our platform to offer customers even more choice, so we hope that Ugandan customers will continue to enjoy hellofood and its services.

We do have competition but hellofood is the global online food delivery marketplace and fastest growing Rocket Internet venture in terms of country expansion. Our experience operating in 40 plus countries gives us an advantage over our competition.
