Facebook is at it again bringing basic online services for Free to Internet users in Ghana. The social network has partnered with Airtel Ghana to avail more users basic information such as news, weather, sports, health information, texting among others through it’s internet.org App.
Zuck has taken a utilitarian approach to the Internet. He believes the internet should be for everyone which will unlock untapped opportunities as he remarked in his Facebook update;
“Right now only about 12% of people in Ghana are connected to the internet, but connectivity is already improving people’s lives and communities.
By connecting everyone, we hope to unlock even more opportunities for Ghana”
This comes after Facebook launched in Zambia, Tanzania and kenya. The full list of free services includes:

- BabyCenter & MAMA– Learn about pregnancy and children
- BBC News – Read news from around the world
- Ebola Information – Get information about Ebola from UNICEF
- Facebook – Communicate with friends and family
- Facts for Life – Find health and hygiene information from UNICEF
- FunDza – Read books & stories
- GhanaWeb – Get news and information about Ghana
- Girl Effect – Read articles and tips for girls
- Jobberman – Search for jobs
- Messenger – Send messages to friends and family
- News24 – Ghana news
- Scholars4Dev – Find scholarships abroad
- SuperSport – Get sports updates
- Tonaton.com – Buy and sell products
- Wattpad – Read books & stories
- Wikipedia – Find information
Internet.org is a non profit organization by Facebook in collaboration with Samsung, Ericsson, MediaTek, Nokia, Opera Software, and Qualcomm setup to make affordable internet access available in parts of the world not connected.
UPDATE: According to our sources, we’ve unconfirmed reports that Internet.org will be launched in Uganda in partnership with Airtel this year in April.
