“Tick, tock, Tablet time!”: Ubuntu for Tablets to be unveiled

Canonical — the company behind the most popular Linux operating system distro — Ubuntu is set to announce an operating system for tablet in the next 8 hours at the time of writing this post according to the countdown timer on their official website.

This comes almost a month after Canonical released an operating system for smartphones that’s yet to hit the market. The first Ubuntu smartphones are expected to launch in October. Currently, hardcore hackers or developers can run Ubuntu on Google’s Nexus 7 tablet. However, with this announcement, Canonical will save you tens of hours of tinkering around with code as there will be a Ubuntu OS specifically built for tablets.
