Facebook’s outage earlier today which lasted for about an hour — the longest time the company has experienced a downtime in four years — wasn’t caused by hackers.
According to a statement issued by a Facebook spokesman to BBC, the outage that took down Facebook, Instagram and Tinder was caused by an internal error rather than an external attack.
“Earlier this evening many people had trouble accessing Facebook and Instagram. This was not the result of a third party attack but instead occurred after we introduced a change that affected our configuration systems. We moved quickly to fix the problem, and both services are back to 100 percent for everyone.”
Lizard Squad, a hacker group had tweeted about Facebook’s downtown causing speculations that the group was behind the giant social network’s outage. However, as you can tell, that’s not true. In April last year, Facebook experienced a brief outage, although only Africa and certain parts of Europe were affected.
Facebook also said that no user data was compromised as a result of today’s outage.
