First impressions with the Infinix Note 3: 6inch FHD display, fingerprint sensor, XOS, a 4000mAh battery all at a good price

Infinix Note 3

The Infinix Note 3 was launched in Uganda only recently in conjuction with Kilimall. This marks the first time the HongKong-based Infinix Mobile makes an entry in the country, after enjoying a successful couple of years in neighbouring Kenya. We have been in possession of a piece for a while now, giving us some time to get a first impression and feel for the device.

If you haven’t yet made the connection, Infinix has a cousin already entrenched in the Ugandan market which perhaps explains why they took their sweet time to cross the Malaba border. We are talking about non other than Tecno Mobile, and the resemblance is a dead giveaway. We will show you  a picture to this effect in a later post so you can see for yourself. Without much further ado, let’s get down to business

Infinix Note 3 Unboxing and First Impressions

The Infinix Note 3 starts off strongly with an aesthetically pleasing presentation. The sturdy blue box opens easily to spill its goodies: Earphones, Power Adapter, USB cable, Screen Protector and the device itself. They say that you can never get a second chance to make a first impression. The Note 3 nails it the first time.

Infinix Note 3

The Infinix Note 3 is a big device. Coming in at 6 inches, the thought of handling such a device can be intimidating at first blush. But fear not (pun intended). The Note 3 sports a somewhat rough aluminum casing and a well-rounded oval shape to give you a firm grip.

The volume and power buttons were placed on the right hand edge, keeping the SD card slot company. The dual SIM card slot is left solitary on the top left edge. You will need the provided pin (or any other pin of the right size) to open these slots.

The back houses a well-centered camera with a dual flash along with a fingerprint sensor. The sensor is so well placed, anybody holding the device will instinctively press their index finger in the sensitive depression. We would not find any discernible way to open the device so we can safely speculate that the back cover is non-removable.

At the front, you will see more well placed features. These include the motion sensor, camera, LED flash and the notification indicator (only visible on charge or when you get a notification)

The Infinix Note 3 runs the Chameleon-flavoured XOS skinning of Android Marshmallow 6.0. Powered by a 1.3 GHz Octa-core processor on 2GB RAM, the end result is a fluid snappy performance. The IPS Touchscreen concludes our first impression of the Note 3. It gives us an immersive full HD display, bleeding deep deep colour. The app icons come alive following a sensory overload of beautiful random screen-savers which greet you every time you turn on the display. As far as first impressions go, the Infinix Note 3 takes the prize.

Infinix Note 3 Talking points

  • Quick charge: We managed to charge the Note 3 from 51% to 90% in a space of 30 minutes.
  • Fingerprint sensor: Once setup, using your fingerprint is a very convenient way to unlock your phone even without realising it.
  • Camera: Both the front and back cameras take really good pictures. We have not been disappointed so far

  1. Must be a mistake. HEY SYDNEY! Syden!! (alternative spelling and pronunciation) did you really mean 520k? Because that price has me questioning my life!

    • Hahaha. It’s actually 519K on Kilimall. Why would that amount question your life?
