Feiying Electric Vehicles Uganda limited a few days ago launched 4 models of their electric motorcycles. At a small event with the media, they launched their bikes to the Ugandan market making them the first company to sell electric bikes in Uganda.
The electric bikes have different battery capacities and charge for 8 hours to get a full charge. According to Yu one of the company directors, the bikes only consume 2KWh to fully charge (That is an equivalent of 2 units of power on your traditional Yaka metre.) Depending on the model the bikes will go for between 60- 120 km on a full charge.

Feiying Electric Vehicles Uganda partners with its sister company Liu Zhou KENAIER Vehicle Industry in China to manufacture the electric bikes which are then assembled in Uganda.
In making a case for electric bikes in Uganda Mr. Yu mentioned 4 major points
1. The Feiying electric motorcycles are easy to maintain. Since they do not use fuel, they do not need an engine. They use a motor, battery and controller to keep moving. Most of what you will be using are consumables like brake pads and tires.
2. They are cost effective: While it requires 2 units of power to charge an electric motorbike to go for 100km plus, a gasoline bike takes Ugx 8,000 or more for the same distance.
3. They have better performance with a better acceleration compared to Gasoline bikes since they develop full torque immediately.
4. They emit way less noise compared to the gasoline bike and thus less sound pollution.
