Sending mobile money across networks has been — and still is — a bit inconvenient. However, Airtel Uganda with its Airtel money platform might have given us some pain killer.
Airtel Money subscribers can now send mobile money directly to MTN Uganda mobile money users without needing secret codes. Money arrives directly to the recipient’s phone which is great. Previously the system asked you to enter a secret code which is a 4 digit number. It would automatically generate a token ID (11 digits) that are sent by SMS to the recipient’s mobile phone number. Not anymore.

Now all Airtel Money users have to do is dial *185# >> Send Money >> To MTN Number >> Enter MTN number and then send. Done. Money is automatically credited to the recipient’s MTN Mobile money registered phone number. The caveat though is that MTN Uganda mobile money users can not send Money to Airtel Money subscribers in the same convenient way (yet).
