bluetooth 5

Bluetooth 5 is not the first of it all, Bluetooth has been in existence since the 1990s for computers and mobile devices, and the technology has made its way to consumer devices over the years up to date; still moving up the tech ladder.

With every iteration, Bluetooth has become an essential wireless technology that has made it easy and convenient for us to connect various devices to each other i.e Laptops, headsets, smartphones, car stereos, mouse, fitness wrist bands and watches. It has made it possible to transfer and share files and internet connections.

Now with the introduction of Bluetooth 5 by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) last summer, it’s set to be the biggest advancement to the tech world, the de-facto version of Bluetooth over the next few years and introducing a raft of improvements over the previous version 4 series standard. And now manufacturers have started implementing it in their devices for example the newly unveiled Samsung Galaxy 8 and Galaxy 8+, wireless headphones like the Bose Quiet Comfort. So what is Bluetooth 5 offering its audience?

A very good working range

Bluetooth 5 has four times the range of the standard Version 2, so while you put on your pair of wireless headphones to listen to music, you can move around the house up to a distance of 1000+feet, the signal will not be lost. The distance limits depend on the hardware you’re using.

It’s fast

It is twice as first as its previous counterpart Bluetooth 4.2. That means a maximum throughput of 2Mbps, and the capacity of broadcast has been increased to 800%. This allows for improved and more context relevant solution according to the Bluetooth SIG.

Extra Navigation features.

With these extra features, the technology can be easily used in indoor beacons and similar location-sensitive devices. It’s basically enabling you to use Bluetooth Tech to find your way around a very busy shopping Centre.

Its backward compatible.

With the new Bluetooth 5, one may think that they will have to throw away devices that are only compatible to the previous versions which is not true. The low-energy version of the format will work well with the running Version 4.0 to 4.2 that has a low-energy option. But if you want to utilize all the full features of the new Bluetooth 5, you will need an updated device kit.

It is very great for the IoT

In the Internet of Things, Bluetooth 5 places a great functionality front and center where it is concerned.  With the extra range and speed (which do not work at the same time) helps more smart household devices communicate with each other easily and there is less need to download an app or connect the app to the device.
