In a bid to diversify its Home Internet service, Safaricom is hoping to leverage its already robust Fibre network to offer home surveillance services. In a move thats been made possible through a partnership with the Kenya Alliance of Residents Association, the new Estate Surveillance service aims to increase security in member estates with a pilot project launched in Ngei Estate phase 2, Langata.
“As we roll out Fibre to the Home in different parts of the country, we are looking to diversify our product offering and give customers a wide array of services. We are cognizant of the increasing demand for security both in our homes and the environments we operate in and hence the reason we are happy to partner with KARA to transform lives of residents of the member estates,” said Steve Okeyo, Safaricom Regional Sales and Operations Director. “We are hoping that through this initiative residents of this estate will continue to enjoy uninterrupted internet connections and also encourage other estates to invest in Home fibre,” he added.
Safaricom Home fibre is available in four categories of customer pricing which are Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum, ranging from Ksh 2,500 to Ksh 9,999 a month.
Safaricom has provided a solar kit for each of the two gates into the estate, complete with a solar panel, a charge controller and a battery to power the surveillance system. The system consists of two cameras at each gate that are all hooked up to a fibre connection that also serves the estate with high speed internet. The surveillance feed is accessible via an easy-to-use online portal that is powered by Safaricom Cloud services.
“Being champions of the Sustainable development goals, Safaricom is keen on clean and affordable energy and that is why this project will be fully powered by solar energy. We hope that through such initiatives, other estates will be encouraged to invest in Home Fibre,” Said Okeyo.
As part of the initiative, Safaricom will also sponsor training of a number of child care-givers in Ngei estate on First Aid and Safety within the home.
