Plex introduces “Web Shows”

Plex, a renowned media software manufacturer, earlier this month, announced its latest service that will allow users watch web shows for free. Called Plex Web Shows, the company seeks to improve its catalog by providing “high-quality episodic video content” in Plex.

Announced earlier this year as an idea, Plex is finally bringing Web Shows to life on its platform. Although Plex Web Shows is available in the Beta stage at the moment, it boasts of 67 shows and over 19,000 episodes at launch. While Plex says more contents, publications, and episodes are in the works and on their way, 67 shows and almost 20,000 episodes are a good start.

Asides being of high quality, contents on the Plex Web Show platform are interestingly diverse to satisfy a wide range of audience. According to Plex, contents on the portal are provided with everyone in mind.

“Featuring the latest in sports, celebrity, pop culture, food and wine, cooking, science and tech, music, home and garden, gadgets, and more, Plex now delivers something for everyone.”

In addition, Plex also notes that shows are curated from the best of publishers and creators which include The New Yorker, Condé Nast, Bonnier Corp., FailArmy, Fandor, Future, TWiT, Jukin, Studio 71, Saveur, GQ, Field and Stream, PC Gamer, and Engadget. More publishers will be added in the future as the platform matures.

Plex Web Shows is already garnering a lot of attention and positive reviews not just because it’s free, but also because of some of the onboard features like sorting shows (by category), personalized recommendation, trending episodes etc.  Likewise, the fact that users can watch Web Shows directly on Plex’s website without installing the app on their devices is also an upside.
