Facebook to Merge WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram Platforms

Social media giant, Facebook is planning to merge the messaging services of its three biggest & most popular platforms – WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram. This way, users on one of these platforms can message another user on another platform without leaving the app.

These platforms will continue being standalone apps, yet users won’t have the challenge of moving from one service to the other. This way, your Messenger-only friend can communicate with you in your Instagram DM. That’s some exciting stuff.

The objective Mark Zuckerberg aims to achieve with this is to create the largest ecosystem of interactive users. Once this integration occurs, over 4 billion users can operate under the Facebook-WhatsApp-Instagram umbrella.

End-to-end encryption, which is the watchword for some of the company’s services, will be deployed to facilitate the privacy of information shared on one-on-one chats on these platforms. Encrypted conversations will only be seen by the sender and the recipient of such messages.

Speaking on the development, a Facebook representative said:

“We’re working on making more of our messaging products end-to-end encrypted and considering ways to make it easier to reach friends and family across networksAs you would expect, there is a lot of discussion and debate as we begin the long process of figuring out all the details of how this will work.”

From a business angle, this enables the precision of the targeted ads promotion due to collection of more user data, sic more funds for Mark.

The amalgamation of these IM services is slated for either the fourth quarter of this year or early 2020. Down to you folks, what are your views on the merging of these three platforms? Hit or miss?
