Exhibitions and Panel Discussions Highlight: Day 1 of Swarm Summit and Tech Expo 2019

The 2019 and 4th edition of the Swarm Summit was opened today (22nd November 2019) at the UMA Multipurpose hall. This summit is an annual summit started by Uganda’s first incubation hub, the Hive Colab together with numerous ICT players to recognize the different levels of development of Uganda’s digital landscape.

This year’s summit is a two-day event happening on the 22nd and 23rd of November with the theme “Celebrating Uganda’s Digital Transformation.” It featured exhibitions from several tech-based startups in Uganda which included; Eversend, Andela Uganda, Fumunera, Logix Technical Services, Data Care Uganda, PBT among others.

Day One featured a panel about AgriTech and what technologies will boost productivity in Uganda’s agricultural sector. It included panelists Joseph Ogwal from Agrosupply, Evelyn Namara from Vouch Digital, Enock Rutsigazi from Embryo transfer and was moderated by Hive Colab Director Teddy Ruge.

Two other panels discussed the key success factors of SMEs wanting to export ITO/BPO services and how Ugandan SMEs can be able to realize their export targets. The panels consisted of members such as Hugo Hemmen, the CEO of Gapstars, a Dutch company looking for possible co-operation in Uganda, Albert Mucunguzi, the chairman ICT Association of Uganda, among others.

The swarm summit 2019 continues on Saturday 23rd November(tomorrow) and will discuss healthcare technologies in Uganda, technologies powering smart cities of the future and educational technology. This will include panelists like Davis Musinguzi from TMCG, Doreen Agaba from the 4IR Task team and Joshua Ocero from Andela.
