How to Change Your Zoom Background on PC and Mobile

If you prefer not to show your messy living room during a Zoom meeting, then this post is for you. You can easily change your Zoom background image during a meeting. So basically, you can be in virtual Paris from your workspace in your bedroom.

Zoom has a couple of system requirements to change to a virtual background on the platform. It requires you to have zoom version 5.2.0 or higher for Windows devices and Zoom desktop client for macOS, 4.6.0 (13614.1202), or higher. There are other requirements you should be aware of.

Change Your Zoom Background on the Desktop App

Follow the steps below to change your background on Zoom while you’re using the desktop app.

  1. In the Zoom app, open video options and click on “Video settings
  2. Click on “Background and filters” on the menu that shows up on the left.
  3. Zoom provides a couple of default background images that you could use. To use any of these, just click on the particular image. If you prefer to use a green screen, there’s that option too.
  4. To upload a photo to use as your Zoom background, click on the “+” icon just above the default background images that Zoom provides. A box pops up to allow you to choose an image from your computer. Select your preferred image and upload.
  5. There’s an “x” button that lets you get rid of photos you don’t want after uploading them.

Change Your Zoom Background on the Mobile App

Follow the steps below to change your zoom background on the mobile app.

  1. Login to your zoom account on the mobile app and join a meeting.
  2. Tap on the three-dotted “More” icon located at the bottom right corner of the phone screen.
  3. Choose “Virtual background“.
  4. Zoom provides a couple of default background options. Select one from these or upload yours. (To upload, you need to give Zoom access to your photos.)
