The wearable space is slowly but steadily taking shape. There is seemingly no shortage of options for users today as many OEMs do offer something in the said space and with WearOS 4, the smartwatch industry is pretty much set.
We have already talked about a number of wearables on this platform in the past from the Mi Band 4, Mi Band 5, Mi Band 6, Honor Band 6, just to mention but a few. From the list above, you can see that one company seems to be dominating, Xiaomi.
Today, we look at yet another offer from the Chinese OEM in form of the Redmi Watch 2 Lite. This can be thought of as a device that further bridges the gap between fitness trackers like the ones we have outlined above, and smartwatches.
Worth noting is that I ordered this watch back on November 11 when it was on offer on AliExpress. Shipping to Kenya took about 2 months and you can check out my experience here.
Unboxing the Redmi Watch 2 Lite
The packaging is pretty simple really. It comes in a pretty compact box and inside, this is what you get.

All in all, a pretty simple package with everything you need and nothing that you don’t. It’d have been nice to get a charging brick with it but in this day and age where even flagship devices don’t come with that, this is a big ask.

Look and Feel
The Redmi Watch 2 Lite feels a lot like an actual watch on your wrist, something that cannot be said about other fitness trackers we have highlighted on this platform in the past.
The wristbands are a lot wider than the thin straps of the Mi Bands and Honor Bands and the watch itself is. The 1.55-inch 320*360 TFT display is shart enough for almost all functions and watch faces so no major complaints there.
The straps are made of silicone and are detachable so I will try getting different colors so I see how that works but the option is there should you be into that sort of thing.
There is a single physical button on the watch’s right side and this can be used to wake up the watch and to get into the menu.
Setup
The Redmi Watch 2 Lite uses the Xiaomi Wear app as the companion application so the setup should be a lot similar to what we’ve seen with other devices like say, the Mi Band 6.
Simply download and install the app on your iPhone or Android and you’re off to the races. Log in with your Xiaomi account and add the Redmi Watch 2 Lite as a new device and it’ll handle the rest.
Things to Note
When placing the order from AliExpress, one of my fears was that I’d get stuck with a Chinese device that isn’t meant for my market and as such, I’d be left with tons of missing features.
Luckily, this is the international variant and it supports many languages including English, German, Italian, French, Spanish, Dutch, Portuguese, Turkish, Polish, Ukrainian, Romania, Czech, Greece, Russian, Thai, Vietnamese, Brazilian Portuguese, Indonesian, Traditional Chinese.
The fonts for the watch also support UTF-8 so all your texts along with a good number of your emojis should work just fine.
