Tecno R7 First Impressions: Specs, Price and features of the Hexacore Smartphone

The R7 is finally available in Uganda after Nigeria and Kenya. Thanks to our friends from Tecno we managed to get one for review. Of course the R7 has received a lot of mixed reactions from around the continent majorly around the necessity of 6 cores versus shipping a Tecno without the latest Android OS. Well we had a couple of days to play with the R7 and are working on a complete review for your reading pleasure. As we wait for it, here are our first impressions of the device.

As always there is a lot to marvel about the R7. Lets start with the improved design that’s been kept slim and functional to the 2430 mAh battery which charges fast. The 5.5’ display is more real screen estate for work and play not to mention that it’s Corning Gorilla glass

We also love the free accessories that ship with Tecno phones – 5200 mAh Power bank, screen protector, smart cover, earphones among others

The camera has also been improved once again and seems to be a little better than the H7 camera especially because it has a faster shutter speed and has better image quality as well.

Of course what everyone wants to know is what the 6 cores and the 2GB RAM add to the phone. Funnily enough, there’s nothing spectacular about the 6 cores or more accurately nothing tangible or visible. Many people expect the phone to be way faster but after using the Tecno Phantom A+ and preceding models, you won’t notice much difference. What’s significant is that you can now install more apps and multi-task better without slowing down the phone as was with preceding models.

There are subtle features that Tecno had added like “Air Gesture” that let’s you browse the menu or pick a call without touching the screen, the improved User Interface (UI)  and Camera and lastly the possibility of updating your OS to the latest version.

Well, we’ll not spill all the beans; bottom line is that Tecno has added some really impressive features that many would love but the R7 isn’t without it’s faults. We will look at all this in the full review coming shortly.

Price and Availability

The R7 is now available in Uganda after having been unveiled in Nigeria and Kenya. Its being sold at major stores although is not yet available around the upcountry stores yet.
