Dark Mode coming to WhatsApp for Android soon

WhatsApp Dark Mode

WhatsApp is reportedly working on a long-awaited feature — Dark Mode — for the Android version of its app and might be rolling it out soon. Dark mode (also called Dark Theme or Night mode) is a very popular feature used by many app users not only because it reduces strain on the eyes, it also helps save battery.

While developers of popular apps like YouTube, Messenger, Skype, Twitter, Chrome, etc. have adopted Dark modes on their apps, WhatsApp, despite its popularity and billions of active users is yet to introduce the feature on its instant messaging platform. On previous Betas though, references to Dark mode were made but WhatsApp didn’t follow through with the feature.

Now, according to WABetaInfo (@WABetaInfo), WhatsApp has resumed developing Dark mode on its app for Android.

WABetaInfo is an online publication renowned for analyzing Beta (and Alpha) versions of WhatsApp for Android, iOS, Windows Phone as well as Web/Desktop. Given @WABetaInfo’s reputation, the information regarding Dark mode for Whatsapp can be trusted.

Some sources report that while Dark Mode for WhatsApp might be coming really soon, WhatsApp did not, at any point, stop working on the feature. It is believed that the company only deployed a new Beta build from a different development branch with no reference whatsoever to Dark mode.

In other news, since Google already announced that the upcoming Android Q OS would feature a system-wide Dark mode, Dark Theme was going to come to WhatsApp even if the company refused to develop a dedicated in-app dark mode.

Which do you prefer though: an OS-induced Dark mode or a dedicated in-app Dark mode?
