TECNO Pouvoir 4: Unboxing and First Impression

Just last month, when we shared a post about the launch of the TECNO Pouvoir 4, there was a lot of buzz online, largely because of its massive battery — a jaw-dropping 6000mAh battery. Frankly speaking, the battery size alone makes a strong case for upgrading to the Pouvoir 4 if you still use the predecessor (Pouvoir 3).

The TECNO Pouvoir 4 is the latest member of the Pouvoir series. It is succeeding the Pouvoir 3 Plus, a device TECNO released in 2019.

We unboxed a unit of the Pouvoir 4 to get a look and feel of what the device is like, what it is made of, as well as its capabilities. An in-depth review of the device will be posted in the coming days but first, let’s see what’s in the box.

Unboxing

The device comes in a short but wide rectangular box with a large ‘Pouvoir 4’ text written on the display of the smartphone with a tear-drop notch. Moving to the rear of this box, the device’s key specifications are neatly listed out at the top of the box.

Inside the box are;

Unwrapping the box revels a smartphone that feels a little heavy and long. It is accompanied by a transparent silicon protective case which makes the device feel a little bit more uncomfortable than it already is.

Another thing in the box is the 3.5 mm jack earphone. Let’s be honest, guys, as far as budget devices are concerned right now, headphone jacks are here to stay; they aren’t going anywhere.

You also get a 10-watt charging brick and a micro USB cable to charge the 6000mAh battery on this device as well as to transfer data.

Design and Display

One very cool thing about the design is the display size. It features a massive 7-inch screen, perfect for gaming and binge-watching your favorite movies. The tear-drop notch, however, makes it look like a device from 2019.

When you turn to the rear of the device, you get to see a quad-camera setup. Also, there’s the quad flash right beside the camera set up, and the fingerprint sensor sitting really close.

At the bottom of this device is a mouthpiece opening, a 3.5 mm jack for headphones, the micro USB port for charging and data transfer, and a down-firing speaker.

The right-side has the power button as well as the volume buttons. On the left side of the device, you’d find the red Google Assistant button, the dual SIM tray which also houses the micro SD card.

Although we got the Ice Jadeite color for this review, Pouvoir 4 is available in two other colors; Cosmic Shine and Purple.

Camera

The rear features 4 cameras set up with a quad-LED flashlight. From the top, you get the 2-megapixel depth sensor, the main 13-megapixel lens, the 2-mega-pixel microlens, and the QVGA sensor at the bottom. The front-facing camera is an 8-megapixel camera with dual flash.

Battery

This is where the TECNO Pouvoir 4 shines. With this device, you get a 6000mAh battery. On a full charge, this battery can provide up to two day (48hrs) usage without having to top up.

The only downside for me was the amount of time it took to charge (a little over 3-hours). I guess that’s because, for a battery that size, you need a really fast charger. The 10-watt charging brick attached to this device isn’t a fast charger, unfortunately.

Pricing and Availability

The TECNO Pouvoir 4 is now available in retail stores (online (like Jumia) and offline) across African countries. This unit was purchased for N56,100 ($145). But considering factors like location, exchange rates, etc, the price might be different in your location.

Verdict

Pouvoir 4 wasn’t designed to give users the fastest experience, but a device that caters to their battery needs and offers users solid battery life for a long period of time.

With a big 7-inch display, Quad-camera setup, tear-drop selfie camera, and a massive 6000mAh battery, Pouvoir 4 is a good option if you need a smartphone that can handle decent day-to-day activities for an average user.
