Multichoice is diversifying away from traditional terrestrial and satellite Pay
TV service into internet provisioning. The company which owns DStv, GOtv and online streaming service Showmax has over 20 million customers across 50 countries in Africa. The company has now launched an internet service in partnership with telecom giant MTN South Africa.
Now, if you’re like me and you don’t have fiber at home, finding reliable, fast, and affordable internet in South Africa can feel like a mission. Here’s my 2025 guide to the latest DStv Internet packages, prices, and how they stack up against the competition.
DStv Internet LTE Packages & Prices (2025)
DStv Internet is a fixed 4G LTE wireless service that runs on MTN’s network. You get a SIM card and a Wi-Fi router—perfect if you don’t have fiber in your area. Here’s what’s on offer right now:
- 25GB Anytime + 25GB Night Data: R225/month (SIM + router, month-to-month)
- 110GB Anytime + 110GB Night Data: R499/month
- 220GB Anytime + 220GB Night Data: R799/month
All plans include a ZTE router (MF286R or MF286C) that connects up to 32 devices. The Trusted Home app is bundled for the first year, giving you parental controls and network security. After 12 months, it’s R30/month extra.
How DStv Internet Works
Just pop the SIM into the router, plug it in, and you’re online. It’s plug-and-play, so you don’t need a technician. I found the speeds solid for streaming, Zoom calls, and even a bit of gaming. Coverage is best in urban areas—check your address on the DStv Internet site before you buy.

Is DStv Internet Worth It?
If you want a plug-and-play LTE solution with a bundled router and decent data, DStv Internet is convenient—especially if you’re already a DStv or Showmax user. But if you’re after pure value, Rain and MTN often have bigger or unlimited deals for less. I recommend checking coverage and comparing the latest deals before you commit.
Tips, FAQs, and What I’ve Learned
- Coverage is king: Always check coverage maps for your address before you buy.
- Night data: On DStv Internet, night data is usually valid from midnight to 5am—great for downloads.
- Router compatibility: DStv Internet routers are locked to their SIMs. MTN and Rain have more device flexibility.
- Support: DStv Internet support is via Multichoice, while Rain, MTN, and Telkom have their own channels.
- Bundles: DStv sometimes offers bundles with Showmax or DStv streaming—look out for promos.
Bottom Line
If you want simplicity, a bundled router, and you’re already in the DStv ecosystem, it’s a solid pick. But for raw data or unlimited plans, Rain and MTN often win on price. Always compare before you buy—and happy streaming!
