After many months of waiting and many rumors, Google has finally unveiled the next iteration of the Google Pixel – the Google Pixel 6 Series. This series is coming in as the successor to the Google Pixel 5 released a year ago. In this article, we will be taking a look at some of the major upgrades the new device came with. Let’s dive in.
Google Tensor
A major upgrade introduced to the Pixel 6 series is the new custom-designed ARM System-on-a-Chip (SoC). It is called Google Tensor. This new processor from Google is coming in to compete with the Snapdragon 888 chip from Qualcomm – a popular processor used on the majority of the high-end Android smartphones you’ll find around now.
According to Google, the new processor will give its new smartphones better hardware for image processing and the best speech recognition. Google Tensor has two ARM Cortex-X1 cores running at 2.8GHz, two Cortex A76 cores running at 2.25GHz, as well as four 1.8GHz A55 cores. That’s a significant upgrade when compared to the single X1 core present on Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 888 chip. Keep in mind that the said chip (Snapdragon 888) powers many high-end smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S21.
What all of this means is, the Google Pixel 6 is going to be significantly faster than the Pixel 5, and probably even faster than other high-end phones like the Galaxy S21.

Let’s talk about the camera setup and its features real quick. You cannot but notice it when you look at the design of the Pixel 6. It is a rectangle-shaped camera bar, housing the triple camera setup (50-megapixel wide + 12-megapixel Ultra-wide + 48-megapixel Telephoto) and sitting horizontally on the rear of the smartphone. The new Google Tensor processor means Google can pack the cameras with new image editing features. Magic Eraser is a new editing feature that lets Google Pixel 6 users take images and get rid of distractions like people or objects in the background.
Price
Considering that Google is offering loads of features and upgrades on the Pixel 6 (128GB of storage in both base models (The 6 can be upgraded to 256GB, the 6 Pro upgraded up to 512GB), a new processor, and top-quality feature-packed camera setup), one would expect that the new Pixel 6 will be sold at a premium. The Pixel 6, however, starts at $599, while the Pixel 6 Pro, at $899. When compared to other high-end smartphones from the likes of Apple and Samsung, the new Pixel’s price is pretty aggressive.
In conclusion, both smartphones (Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro) are available for preorder. And according to Google, it will begin shipping on October 28th. Google says the Pixel 6 smartphone will be selling on Amazon and other online retailers.
