We lead most of our modern lives on the web and while the real world is where we’re all anchored, our digital lives are also pretty meaningful. The older we get, the more we try to get our affairs in order just in case we meet our inevitable departure from this planet.
We have lawyers who take us through our will, we talk to our family about how property should be shared, and so on. But then what about our digital lives? What about all your online accounts?

Facebook is a far more social platform than Google and this makes this feature even more useful on Facebook than Google. Luckily, Facebook also has a way of letting users put these settings in place.
How to add and change legacy contacts on your Facebook account
Facebook calls this Legacy. This feature allows you to set persons that you will entrust with the responsibility of managing your Facebook account when you’re not able to
In this post, we show you how you can add, change or remove your legacy contact in your account’s general settings.
To add a legacy contact, follow these simple steps on your computer:
- Click your profile picture in the top right of Facebook.
- Select Settings and privacy, then click Settings.
- Click Memorialisation settings.
- Type in a friend’s name in Choose a friend and click Add.
- To let your friend know they’re now your legacy contact, click Send.
To change or remove a legacy contact, follow steps 1-2 above, then click Remove. From there, you can add a new legacy contact if you’d like.
Worth noting is that, you must be aged 18 or over to select a legacy contact. I don’t know the rationale behind this but there must be a reason.
