Barclays bank Uganda is the latest traditional bank to integrate mobile money services to its e-banking or online/mobile banking platform. About two weeks, the bank sent out SMS messages about the new service to its customers.
With the new integration, Barclays bank users can withdraw money directly from their bank account to their mobile money wallets on MTN Mobile money and Airtel Money. This is currently possible via its mobile App and website. Barclays bank customer care agent also told me its possible via their ATMs although when I checked it out, I didn’t see the option.
Additionally, Barclays bank users can also pay utility bills, purchase airtime and mobile data from both the web and mobile app. Even though the options are available, I found them less intuitive and hard to find. You have to dig in to figure out how its done.
Barclays joins Stanbic Bank, Centenary, DFCU, Standard Chartered bank and over 11 other banks in Uganda that support withdraw and deposit of mobile money. UBA is notoriously still MIA on the list.
