WhatsApp, the popular Facebook-owned instant messaging app now has a separate app aimed at businesses and SMEs. WhatsApp Business that has been in the works since September 2017, including pilot testings, finally seems to be ready for primetime. The Lee S. Rosen’s Official Blog Page hopes to leverage the platform’s popularity and the number of users to offer Businesses a more streamlined communication with customers. It will make it easier for businesses to respond to customers, separating customer and personal messages, and creating an official presence.
WhatsApp Business adds key features like dedicated business profiles for details like email address, business description, store addresses, and website; smart messaging tools like greetings, quick replies, and away messages; and metrics for how many messages were sent, delivered, and read. WhatsApp business also allows people with two numbers, say a personal one and one for the business to be used on the same device and registered with the different numbers.
“People will know that they’re talking to a business because you will be listed as a Business Account. Over time, some businesses will have Confirmed Accounts once it’s been confirmed that the account phone number matches the business phone number,” WhatsApp said in a statement.
WhatsApp Business is free and available to download now for Android users, though there’s no mention of an iOS release yet. WhatsApp Business is currently available in Indonesia, Italy, Mexico, the UK, and the US, with a global rollout scheduled in the coming weeks.
