The long wait is seemingly coming to an end. HMD Global, the new home of Nokia devices has announced that the 2018 Nokia 5 is now available in the Kenyan market in accredited retailers in country. The signature aluminium unibody design has been refined to achieve ultimate quality, style and feel in the hand, while still retaining the rigidity and reliability you expect from a Nokia smartphone. With its higher-resolution display, 40% faster processor and improved cameras, Nokia 5.1 gives fans a smoother and more premium experience than its predecessor.
The Nokia 5 is slightly more powerful than last year’s installation while deliberately being mid-range. Here are specifications of the device:
- 5.5-inch Full HD (2160 x 1080 pixels) display
- 8MP selfie camera, 16MP back camera
- MediaTek Helio P18 MT6755S
- 3GB RAM, 32GB onboard storage // 2GB RAM 16GB onboard storage (expandable up to 128GB)
- Android 8.1, Oreo
- 2,970mAh battery
- Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, NFC (some models), microUSB (aargh)
- FM Radio

In place of the 5.2-inch HD display on last year’s model, there’s a bump to a 5.5-inch 1080p panel with a higher screen-to-body ration and an 18:9 aspect ration, much in line with what we’ve gotten used to from 2018 smartphone releases. While there’s a memory bump, those among us who prefer Qualcomm chipsets will be upset that the Nokia 5 (2018) makes do with a MediaTek processor.
Announced back in May, the Nokia 5.1 was slated for an August release and since we’re already in August, it hasn’t taken long to get to us. According to a statement from the publicists of HMD Global’s local office, the 2018 edition of the Nokia 5 is available across the country for Kshs 19,500.
