Although the unveiling of the new TECNO Camon 16 at this time of the year comes as a surprise — the Camon 15 series was released only a couple of months ago — it is a welcome addition to the Camon series.

This article will show you the basic differences between the premium model of the Camon 15 series (Camon 15 Pro) and the new Camon 16 Premier, and it will help you decide whether an upgrade is worth it.

Let’s dive in. The TECNO Camon 16 vs Camon 15; what differentiate both devices?

Design and Display

I must admit I was confused when I saw the design of the new Camon 16. It comes with a 6.9-inch Full HD display — bigger than the 6.5-inch Full HD display you get on the Camon 15 Pro.

The display houses the punch-hole dual selfie cameras (48 MP main + 8 MP ultrawide). Unlike the Camon 15 Pro that has a ‘clean’ display (front camera uses a pop-up mechanism), the Camon 16’s camera cut-out eats some display real estate.

One major improvement to the display of the Camon 16, though, is the 90Hz refresh rate (the first of its kind on any TECNO smartphone).

Camera

TECNO smartphones in the Camon series are known for outstanding camera performance. And as expected, the new Camon 16 Premier didn’t disappoint. It comes with significant upgrades from the Camon 15 Pro.

On the Camon 16 Premier, you have a square camera array, that houses a quad-camera setup. The setup comprises of a 64 MP Sony IMX686 sensor main camera, an 8 MP ultrawide-angle shooter, and two 2MP units for depth and night shots.

This is a step up from the quad-camera array of the Camon 15 Pro — 48 MP main camera, two 2 MP sensors, and a 5 MP camera.

For the front camera, the Camon 16 Premier comes with a punch-hole dual selfie camera (48 MP main + 8 MP ultrawide), while you get a single 32 MP pop-up camera on the Camon 15 Pro.

Processor

Although the cameras of the Camon 16 Pro is its most marketed feature, it’s processing power definitely deserves more highlight and accolades.

The device is powered by the Mediatek Helio G90T chipset, which is one of the best mid-range chipsets around. This is an upgrade when compared to the 2.35GHz Octa-core MediaTek Helio P35 (MT6765) processor on the Camon 15 Pro, this is a major upgrade.

The Mediatek Helio G90T is perfect for gaming, and with speeds up to 800MHz, you get super gaming experiences even with high CPU-intensive games like PUGB and Fortnite.

Also, it might interest you to know that the Mediatek Helio G90T is the first chipset to bring the latest 64MP quad-cell sensor cameras into smartphones.

Upgrade or Stay Put?

If you are particular about improving the camera and photography experience on your smartphone, then you should upgrade to the new Camon 16 Premier, as major upgrades were made in the camera department. Also, the new upgrade to the processor and RAM (8GB) makes the Camon 15 Premier a perfect option for mobile gaming and intense multitasking.
