If you’re a Ugandan of 45 years of age and above, you might quality to access up to 20% your NSSF savings thanks to a new law. This comes as big financial relief for most people especially following the effects of the global Covid-19 pandemic. NSSF is making payments to qualifying members as early as March 17, 2022. The organization has set aside Ugx 1 trillion for the midterm benefit payments and upto Ugx 50 billion per week will be paid out.
So who exactly qualifies for this midterm fund? Well, at least not me seeing as I am still on the 3rd floor. But if you’re 45 years of age, been saving for at least 10 years or are a person with disability, then yes, you can go and get your money. To directly quote the National Social Security Fund (Amendment) Act 2022(PDF);
- A member who is forty-five years of age and above and who has made contributions to the Fund under section 7 of the Act for at least 10 years, is eligible to midterm access to his or her benefits, of a sum not exceeding 20 percent of his or her accrued benefits.
- A member who:
- Is a person with disability
- Is forty years of age and above; and
- Has made contributions to the fund under section 7 of the Act for at least ten years, is eligible to midterm access, of a sum of 50 percent of his or her accrued benefits.
NSSF requires that you provide your NSSF Number, National Identification Number (NIN), bank account details and phone number registered in your names.
How to apply for NSSF Midterm funds
If you quality for the midterm funds, you can apply in three ways; through your phone, online and physically at NSSF branches located countrywide.
Phone applications apply to members whose NSSF balances are below UGX 15M . To apply on your phone, simply dial *165*6*4# on MTN or *185*7*5# on Airtel. Select 1 for NSSF, then Select 2 for midterm benefits, Accepts terms and conditions, Enter your NSSF number and complete the subsequent steps.
To apply online, visit https://midterm.nssfug.org/landing and login with your NSSF number and date of birth. Then fill in the online web form.
To apply offline, visit any of the NSSF branches across the country starting on Monday 7th March 2022 or Kololo Airstrip from Wednesday 9th March 2022 or your Employers premises (for the 150+ employees who qualify). Here’s a list of NSSF branches you can visit countywide.
