It is required for almost every service, such as passport processing, immigration checks, sim card registration, etc. However, there have been a few cases of unscrupulous individuals who take advantage of other people’s stolen or lost identities to register sim cards, leaving the owner in oblivion or vulnerable, especially when the card is used to commit a crime.

How to Confirm Numbers Linked to Your NIN Using USSD on MTN and Airtel?
It’s worth noting this USSD shortcode is a service of the Uganda Communications Commission, UCC and it’s available to use for free on the MTN network. To use it on the Airtel network, one is required to have airtime to complete the process.
Here are the steps you can follow to verify all phone numbers linked to your NIN on both networks of MTN and Airtel.
- Step 1: Dail shortcode *197# on your phone
- Step 2: Select Option 2 of “Check ID Number” and later Option 1 to “Check NIN“
- Step 3: Enter your NIN to be able to view all numbers affiliated with that national ID number. Remember you have to enter the exact NIN used to register that phone number.
- Step 4: To remove numbers linked to your NIN on both MTN and Airtel, you will have to submit a request to have them deregistered at a service center. Remember to carry your National ID for identification.

How to Check All MTN Uganda Sim Cards Registered With Your NIN Using MyMTN App
The MyMTN app is a Swiss army knife for MTN’s products and services. It is a one-stop place where you can buy daily data and voice bundles, Gaga weekend bundles, and pay for all paid subscription services on the MTN network. Away from all that, there is a feature tucked away in the far end which allows you to check all the MTN sim cards registered with your NIN, and here is how you can do that.
Step 1: Download and install the MyMTN app on your smartphone. The app is available on both iOS and Android. Log in to the app with your phone number and an OTP.
Step 2: Click on the hamburger icon on the top right-hand corner of the screen and choose “Profile”.
Step 3: On your profiles page, you will see details related to your sim cards, including your profile name. Scroll down to the “Linked Numbers” section and click on it to be able to view all phone numbers linked to your NIN on MTN Uganda.
