In a bold move to elevate digital experiences at home, MTN Uganda has just announced a series of exciting updates to its WakaNet Home broadband service. From dramatically faster speeds and competitive pricing to smart home integrations and better customer support, WakaNet is now even better suited for Ugandans seeking top-quality, reliable internet solutions.
Launched in 2020, WakaNet has quickly become a favorite choice for households in Uganda, providing access to high-speed internet through fiber, 5G, and 4G technologies. This new wave of enhancements is all part of MTN’s “Welcome Home” campaign, aligning with its broader Ambition 2025 vision—a drive to connect all Ugandans to the benefits of a modern, digital lifestyle.
What’s New?
Here’s a breakdown of the fantastic new updates MTN has introduced for WakaNet users across Uganda:
1. Significantly Faster Fiber Speeds – Without Extra Cost
MTN Uganda has turned up the dial on speed, with fiber packages now delivering up to six times faster internet at the same prices. The entry-level package has been bumped up from 10Mbps to a whopping 60Mbps, while higher-tier options now offer speeds of up to 500Mbps—a first-of-its-kind speed in Uganda. And the best part? All fiber packages now come with unlimited data. That means no more worrying about usage caps or extra charges for heavy data use.

2. Affordable 5G and 4G Connectivity Options
For those living outside of MTN’s fiber coverage area, high-speed connectivity is still within reach. MTN is offering free 5G routers with the purchase of a 5G package, starting at UGX 130,000 monthly. Plus, the 5G routers now include a built-in battery backup to keep you connected even during power outages.
MTN has also made 4G routers more affordable, cutting the price from UGX 130,000 to UGX 99,000, with data packages starting at just UGX 55,000 per month. Additionally, the WakaNet MiFi has seen a price drop to UGX 50,000, including a free 5GB sign-up bonus.
3. Introducing Smart Home Security with WakaNet Cameras
MTN is expanding into the smart home market by offering security cameras that seamlessly integrate with WakaNet. These cameras, available for both indoor and outdoor use, allow customers to monitor their homes in real-time from anywhere. The combination of high-speed internet and smart security makes it easier for Ugandans to stay connected and secure, wherever they are.

Customers can also use the MyMTNApp or dial 10023# for subscription renewals and package management.
A Vision for Inclusive Connectivity
Speaking at the launch, Franklin Ocharo, MTN Uganda’s General Manager for Growth & New Business, expressed MTN’s dedication to making high-quality internet accessible for all. “At MTN Uganda, we believe that everyone deserves access to reliable and high-speed internet, whether they are relaxing or working from home.
