How To Register as an Airtel Money Agent In Kenya

Airtel is the second largest mobile phone network provider in Kenya with a subscriber base well above 6 million. Airtel Money is Airtel’s version of Safaricom’s M-PESA and is available in many other African countries. This African giant is available in Burkina Faso, Chad, DRC, Congo, Gabon, Madagascar, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia.

Having an Airtel Money outlet within your business will not only give you extra income in form of commission. You will also benefit from increased traffic to your business which can easily be turned into customers. You can register to be an Airtel Money Agent either as a Sole Proprietorship, Partnership or as a limited company. Below are specific requirements for each category though requirements for a sole proprietorship are the same as those for a partnership.

Requirements for Sole Proprietorship or a Partnership

  1. Download the Airtel Money Retail Outlet Application form and fill it up.
  2. A certified copy of KRA PIN certificate.
  3. Copies of certified National ID or Passport of the owner/owners.
  4. Certified copy of the business name registration.
  5. Copy of certified VAT certificate where applicable.
  6. A copy of a valid business trading license.
  7. Colored passport photo of owner/owners of the business.
  8. A functional business email address.
  9. You should have at least 1 and not more than 2 outlets.
  10. Each outlet should have at least Ksh 15,000 operational float.

Requirements for a Limited Company

  1. Download the Airtel Money Retail Outlet Application Form and fill it up.
  2. Certified incorporation certificate of the company.
  3. Copy of certified KRA PIN certificate.
  4. Certified copy of VAT certificate if applicable.
  5. Colored passport photos of at least 2 directors
  6. The company should have 1 or 2 outlets
  7. Each outlet should have at least Ksh 15,000 operational float.
  8. A functional company email address.
  9. A copy of a valid business trading license.
  10. Certified copies of National ID or Passport for at least 2 directors.

First of all, ensure your documentation is compliant with all the above requirements. Now proceed to deliver the documentation to the nearest Airtel official shop/center. In the absence of such a facility near you, you may scan the required documents and send them to [email protected]. The email should outline the physical location of your business to enable an Agent from Airtel Money to visit.

Another option is to call the Airtel customer care number 0733 100 100 where a sales representative will be sent to assist you. After approval of your Airtel Money Agent application, you will be issued with an Airtel Money SIM card and be trained on how to use it. You will also be issued with all necessary point-of-sale materials as well as user guides.
