I don’t know about you, but I’m excited about 2023. I think (and hope) it will be the best year yet for Internet users across the African continent. Elon Musk’s Starlink launches in Kenya, Nigeria, Malawi, and Tanzania, among other countries. But to look forward, we need to first look back. And 2022 was a year of hard-earned lessons; below is the state of home internet solutions in Uganda.
We look at the best deals you can get and how they compare across different telecom networks. Follow along as we unpack the state of home internet options in Uganda.
Fiber to Home Internet (FTTH)
Fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) is a broadband internet technology that delivers high-speed internet access to customers through fiber optic cables. In Uganda, several internet service providers (ISPs) offer FTTH internet options, which are becoming increasingly popular due to their fast speeds and reliable connectivity.
MTN Wakenet has been the big dog in this docket in my opinion in terms of coverage and availability. I am happy to see many Airtel Uganda join the party as well as a couple of other players like Sprint.
One of the main issues is coverage areas. While FTTH internet is available in some areas of the country, it is not yet widely available. MTN Wakanet Pro seems to be the only ISP trying to have a countrywide network of FTTH. Most of the ISPs are available in very limited areas mostly in premium estates and upscale locations around Kampala.
We have extensively covered MTN Wakanet Pro, Zuku Fiber, and Airtel Xstream here on our blogs which you can read. Here is the list of all ISPs offering Fiber to Home Internet in and around Uganda with different packages and prices.

Unlimited Internet
In this section, we will focus on ISPs that use connect the internet to your home or offices using microwaves i.e. install antennas on your rooftop which are then connected to a WiFi router in your home.
There are many ISPs to choose from, each with its own unique plans and pricing structures. This allows consumers to find the option that best fits their needs and budget.
Another benefit of unlimited internet in Uganda is the reliability of the connection. Since microwaves are able to transmit data over long distances without interference, users can expect a stable and consistent connection. This is particularly useful for those who rely on the internet for business or other important tasks.

Bundle Rated Home Internet
The only two worthy packages in this category are Airtel’s broadband internet and MTN’s Wakanet Max. Both are 4G home internet solutions with tailored bundles and router that connects up to 32 devices.
The perks of this arrangement or this type of internet are they are available countrywide and with stable speeds all through. The downside from our experience has been the internet bundles getting done pretty fast before the end of the month.
