Equitel 5G is Now Live in 370 Locations across Kenya

Equitel has become the first Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) to launch 5G services in Africa. This, in collaboration with Airtel Kenya. This exciting development adds to the existing 5G providers in Kenya, with Safaricom pioneering the rollout in October 2022, followed by Airtel in July 2023.

5G is the fifth generation of cellular network technology, offering significantly faster speeds, lower latency (reduced delays), and the ability to connect many more devices at once compared to older 4G/LTE networks.

Equitel 5G is currently present in over 370 locations within Kenya, including these major areas:

  • Nairobi
  • Mombasa
  • Kisumu
  • Eldoret
  • Nakuru
  • Athi River
  • Kakamega
  • Bungoma
  • Siaya

How to access Equitel 5G

  • 5G-compatible phone: Ensure you have a smartphone designed to work with 5G networks.
  • 4G SIM Card: You’ll need an Equitel 4G SIM card (older 3G SIMs won’t work). You can upgrade at your nearest Equity Bank branch.
  • Coverage Check: See if your area has 5G coverage on the Equitel website.

Pricing

While specific 5G packages and rates haven’t been disclosed yet, Safaricom’s 5G plans start at Ksh 3500 for a 400GB monthly bundle, and Airtel’s packages begin at Ksh 3000 for 300GB per month.
