Multichoice says that the moment you connect your DSTV Explora that’s “the moment your TV Viewing experience will change forever”.
So it seems the Pay TV provider seems to be overly confident of its product. DSTV Explora decoder offers full Personal Video Recoder (PVR) functionality. PVR enables you to record TV shows for later viewing. Multichoice claims their DSTV Explora can record up to 220 hours of content. The decoder has internal storage of 2 Terabytes enough to store about 9 days of recorded TV video footage.
Recording TV can come in handy for instance when you’re caught up in a traffic jam but don’t want to miss the news broadcast. Or maybe you’ve two of your favorite shows on two different channels airing at the same time. In that case, you can record one while you watch the other. DSTV calls that “View 1, record 1”. Really cool.
That aside Multichoice says its decoder can pause live TV for up to 2 hours. So why would you want to pause live TV? Maybe its a football match and you want to make yourself a cup of coffee first before you continue. In that case you won’t miss out on any live action.
The DSTV Explora comes with an HD User Interface and is HD capable. That means you can watch 720x1080i resolution Video content on HD-supported channels. That goes without saying that your TV should also be HD capable.
You also have access to DSTV Boxoffice and DSTV Catchup.
With DSTV Boxoffice, you can rent the latest blockbuster movies from DSTV. In Uganda, you rent movies for only Ugx 6,000 per movie. DSTV Catchup is Multichoice’s Video-on-demand (VoD) service available to Premium DSTV subscribers. The service enables you watch a selection of series, movies, sports and general entertainment at your own convenience. DSTV Catchup isn’t just available to Explora decoder owners. You can access the service via Apple mobile or tablet devices.
