DStv Uganda customers are starting the year with hiked subscription fees after the pay TV provider made the announcement on their Facebook page earlier today. The increase comes as a result of the current level of inflation in the country that has seen the shilling weaken against the dollar. The dollar is currently trading at Ugx 2,830 from about 2,600 previously and since DStv customers pay at the current dollar rate, they will have to suffer the increase till the dollar rate stabilizes. DStv has it’s own rate which is 2,875 per dollar.
The DStv packages have increased as follows.
DStv Access Bouquet at $10 has increased from Ugx 26,000 to 28,750
DStv Family at $20 has increased from Ugx 52,000 to 57,500
DStv Compact at $28 has increased from Ugx 72,800 to 94,875
DStv Compact Plus at $48 has increased from Ugx 124,800 to 155,250
DStv Premium at $78 has increased from Ugx 202,800 to 241,500
PVR and XtraView subscription incurrs an extra UGX 28,750 on all the above rates.
As always, customers were very loud about their dissatisfaction with the decision to increase the subscription fees. They complained about the lack of Free-to-Air channels that DStv doesn’t offer and the absence of toll free lines to get in touch with customer care. Customers have had to incur call charges when getting in touch with customer care. This among lot’s of complaints were expressed.
