USB type C is the definition of next generation connectivity and, whereas not so many devices have it yet, it is a standard that cuts across in terms of power and file transfer. You may not be in position to hold a smartphone with a type C port, given the current costs and the minimal popularity, but a number of devices carry on this standard.

With Intel already planning on making the specification available to the industry next year under a royalty-free license, be sure that the near future will see majority of devices linked up by the Type C.
