Here’s What Jumia has in Plan for Uganda in 2020

In a recently released study published by GeoPoll, Jumia emerged as the most dominant e-commerce site in Uganda. About 76% of Uganda’s online shoppers were using Jumia to make their purchases which were mainly electronics, fashion, and groceries. Jumia has now released a brand new and aggressive plan to increase its investment into the Ugandan market for 2020.

Jumia Uganda CEO said that while 2019 was a tough year globally, Jumia Uganda was on a path to attain profitability.

“In Uganda, we have seen that Jumia continues to dominate the online shopping space with 76% of Ugandan online shoppers relying on our platform in 2019. We are already serving tens of thousands of consumers through our e-commerce platform. In 2020 we will bring e-commerce to an even broader base by increasing our investments in marketing and order fulfillment. .” he said. 

So what does the Jumia’s plan for Uganda in 2020 contain?

Strengthening Logistics Capabiities

Jumia will strengthen its logistics capabilities to ensure same-day delivery in Kampala for all ‘Jumia Express’ items. It is expanding on its shipping option called “Jumia Pickup Stations”, where you pick up your orders at your convenience.

It has collaborated with the Bata shoe store and Total to have some of their service points as pick-up points. This is aimed at providing you with more access points to pick their Jumia orders especially those in upcountry regions. The new pick up stations also allow you to pay cash on delivery. Previously upcountry orders were restricted to mobile money payment only.

Launch of Jumia Pay 

Jumia will also be making an entry into the fintech space with the launch of its online payment service ‘Jumia Pay’. The service which is currently live in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Egypt and Ivory Coast. It will provide you a fast, safe and easy way to make cashless payments on the Jumia platform. Potential financial services such as lending are being worked on for the future.

Increasing Number of Vendors on the platform 

Jumia also plans to increase the number of vendors selling on the platform as a key part of its growth plan. It plans to acquire at least 400 new vendors monthly which will lead to an increase in product assortment and variety.
