Samsung has officially unveiled its 2023 flagship device, the Samsung Galaxy S23 series of devices. As expected, these devices are not drastic iterations of the outgoing series of flagships, the Samsung Galaxy S22 devices with similar designs, similar cameras, and a few under-the-hood tweaks.

Like last year, the S23 devices come in 3 variants, the Samsung Galaxy S23, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Plus, and the big daddy of them all, the spiritual successor to the Samsung Galaxy Note devices of yesteryears, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra.

The Snapdragon 8 gen 2 for Galaxy chipset is probably the star of the show in these devices. They call it ‘for Galaxy’ because Samsung has pushed the chip clock speed to one that is slightly higher than the base product Snapdragon 8 gen 2 but it is essentially the same flagship chip from Qualcomm.

So the Samsung Galaxy S23 devices were officially unveiled on February 1, 2023, and preorders are open starting today February 2 for users who want to be first to get their hands on these devices.

Users can preorder their S23 devices at all authorized Samsung Dealer stores countrywide and should expect to get their units later this month or very early next month. Below are the prices.

  • Galaxy S23 Ultra – KES 209,999 for 512GB
  • Galaxy S23 Plus – KES 154,999
  • Galaxy S23 base – KES 135,999

These devices will be available in 4 color options: Phantom Black, Cream, Green, and Lavender.

Samsung is not looking to reinvent the wheel with the Samsung Galaxy S23 devices. These iterative devices are akin to what we often see with iPhones with their S-models. With the Galaxy S23, Samsung is refining a formula that has worked for them in the past few years.

It’ll be interesting to see how well this device fare in a market that is not short of the competition from brands like Xiaomi, Apple, and even underdogs like TECNO and Infinix that are really stepping up with their new offers.
