What to Expect From the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5

Samsung is by a long shot the king of foldable smartphones. And it has dominated that space for some time now. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 foldable phone is currently the fourth generation. And as we’re getting closer to the launch of its next generation (Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5), we expect to see even better specs and features.

Although we don’t expect to see major improvements in areas like the design (It has looked the same for years), we expect major improvements to the display tech, durability, better cameras, improved software, and more.

As expected, there are a lot of rumors about the upcoming Galaxy Fold 5. Rumors about a new waterdrop hinge design, a lighter build, a faster processor, and possible camera upgrades. Here’s everything we expect to see on the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 5 smartphone.

New Teardrop Hinge Design

According to leaks, not a lot of changes would be made to the design of the GalaxyZ Fold 5. We hear it’s going to look a lot like its predecessor – the Galaxy Z Fold 4. It’ll likely feature a narrow cover display and an almost bezel-less foldable display on the inside.

Although some have predicted that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will maintain the same hinge style as its predecessor, one change that we might see is the rumored teardrop-style hinge. This hinge style is similar to what we saw on the Google Pixel Fold.

The teardrop hinge ensures that both sides of the display close flat on each other when you close the device. If this is the case, we can expect to see the slimmest Galaxy Fold device yet.

The Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 SoC chip powered the Galaxy Fold 4 when it launched a year ago. On the Galaxy Z Fold 5, however, we expect it to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 (for Galaxy) processor – similar to what’s on the Samsung Galaxy S23 series.

The Galaxy Z Fold 5 will also feature the high-level IPX8 water resistance – the same rating as the Galaxy Z Fold 4. Furthermore, some rumors say the device might also be rated IP58. This means it would come with a good level of dust resistance as well
