WhatsApp groups filling up your gallery? Here is a fix

WhatsApp Groups

Over 1.5 billion users. 65 billion messages daily. 1 billion WhatsApp groups. Facebook owned WhatsApp Messenger is one of the most used messaging apps in the world. Over 4.5 billion photos are shared daily via WhatsApp, and some of these end up in our galleries.

Many people don’t turn off media auto download in WhatsApp settings because it becomes tedious to manually download a photo every time. And in comes group chats where every one is free to share media.

Because it’s a whole day job keeping up with fast paced group chats, we end up scheming through conversations just to arrive to the most recent discussion. However, all the shared photos end up in our galleries (without a sieve). Every single image & videos that the members share ends up in your gallery. Soon the phone gallery is filled with images shared in WhatsApp groups.

But how do you stop WhatsApp groups from filling up your gallery? To solve this problem you can use a WhatsApp feature where you can see the pics in group only without saving them to your phone.

How to tweak WhatsApp settings to stop WhatsApp Groups from filling up your gallery

  • Open the group chat
  • Click on 3 vertical dots shown on the right top corner in the group.
  • Click on the first option i.e. “Group Info”
  • Click on the “Media visibility” from the available options
  • Change from the default option to “No”
  • Now the media will not be saved in your phone. However, it will display only in your group chats.

See the screenshots below for context. However, the official WhatsApp may not have some of the options seen below since we are using a WhatsApp mod.
