What exactly is Power BI?

Power BI (Business Intelligence) is a collection of software services, apps, and connectors that work together to turn your unrelated sources of data into coherent, visually immersive, and interactive insights.

Power BI helps Business Analysts, Business Intelligence Managers, Statisticians & Analysts, Project Managers, and Data scientists to visualize and share insights from their organizations’ data. It provides interactive visualizations with self-service business intelligence capabilities, where end users can create reports and dashboards by themselves, without having to depend on any information from technology staff or database administrators.

Platform Availability

Power BI offers a set of mobile apps for iOS, Android, and Windows mobile devices. In the mobile apps, you connect to and interact with your cloud and on-premises data.

Power BI is a powerful BI tool, but it sadly doesn’t support Mac devices. Tableau is the closest thing to Power BI and also works for Macs, making it a solid alternative for Mac users.

There is also no Linux version of Power BI Desktop. The only “workaround” would be to use a windows virtual machine either on a local VM or using one of the cloud providers.
