Airtel Money Customers Can Now Pay for Electricity Tokens for Free

Kenya Power is probably the only electricity provider in Kenya, serving over 2.6 million customers nationwide. The company owns and operates most of the electricity transmission and distribution system in Kenya, and sells electricity to various sectors, including domestic, commercial, industrial, and public institutions.

The company’s vision is to provide quality and affordable electricity for all by 2030. To achieve this, Kenya Power has embarked on several initiatives, such as expanding its network coverage, enhancing its customer service, investing in renewable energy sources, and promoting energy efficiency and conservation.

Kenya Power has also digitized its billing systems and customers can pay for their Power Tokens and settle their electricity bills via electronic payment, M-PESA for many Kenyans.

Today, thanks to a partnership between Kenya Power and Airtel Kenya, Airtel customers using the carrier’s mobile money platform, Airtel Money, can pay for their Power without incurring any transaction charges.

“We are now glad to offer Kenyans this solution where they will enjoy zero transaction cost for the next six months when they make their electricity payments. The cost saving on the charge per transaction will enable customers to utilize their money for other purchases,”

How to pay for Kenya Power Tokens (KPLC) with Airtel Money:

  1. Dial *334# on their mobile phones.
  2. Select Airtel PayBill from the options presented.
  3. Choose KPLC as the recipient of the payment.
  4. Proceed with the payment by following the prompts.

This is a temporary reprieve that will last for six months. However, Airtel Money assures customers that the subsequent fees will be affordable and in line with their commitment to providing highly cost-effective services.

The introduction of free payments for Kenya Power services demonstrates Airtel Kenya’s commitment to providing value-added services to its customers. It not only enhances the convenience of bill payment but also helps users save money by eliminating transaction charges.
