The Google Pixel Watch has since been succeded by the Pixel Watch 2 but it still represents the best of Android wearables in many aspects. With the launch of its successor, you’re bound to come across the Pixel Watch at discounted prices online.

So should you get yourself a unit? Well, I have been using the Pixel Watch for a few weeks now and I have a few insights that might be helpful. I have broken down this into Pros and Cons but for a much deeper insight, check out the full review.

Pros of the Google Pixel Watch

Of course, the Pixel Watch is an impressive device. So why should you get yourself one of these? Here are some of my Pros for this watch.

Google Assistant

One of the main advantages of the Pixel Watch is that it supports Google Assistant, which means you have the full power of the most capable digital assistant on your wrist. You can use your voice to ask Google Assistant anything, from checking the weather, setting reminders, controlling smart home devices, playing music, and more.

Of course, this feature requires an internet connection, so your watch needs to be connected to WiFi if you don’t have the LTE model or have it paired to your phone.

Wear OS 4

Another benefit of the Pixel Watch is that it runs on Wear OS 4, which is a very capable wearable OS with Google Play Store. This means you can install many available and supported apps to further enhance your watch experience.

For example, you can use apps like Spotify, Strava, Google Maps, Google Pay, and more on your Pixel Watch. Wear OS 4 also has a redesigned interface that is more intuitive and user-friendly than previous versions.

Fitbit Premium

The Pixel Watch also comes with six months of Fitbit Premium, which is the platform’s most feature-rich tier with many fitness features, workout modes, and analytics.

Fitbit Premium gives you access to personalized insights, guided programs, advanced health metrics, wellness reports, and more. You can also use Fitbit’s app to track your activity, sleep, heart rate, stress, and blood oxygen levels on your Pixel Watch.

Cons of the Google Pixel Watch

But then no device is perfect. Here are some of the things I really didn’t like about this watch.

Battery Life

One of the main drawbacks of the Pixel Watch is its battery life, which is not very impressive compared to other smartwatches. The Pixel Watch has a 350 mAh battery that can last up to 24 hours on a single charge, depending on your usage. However, this is significantly less than the Apple Watch Series 7, which can last up to 18 hours with an always-on display or up to 50 hours with a low-power mode. The Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 also has a better battery life than the Pixel Watch, with up to 40 hours on a single charge.

Design

Another disadvantage of the Pixel Watch is its design, which may not appeal to everyone. The Pixel Watch has a circular display that measures 1.28 inches in diameter and has a resolution of 450 x 450 pixels. The display is bright and sharp, but some users may prefer a larger or more rectangular screen that can show more information at once.

It comes in one size, 42mm. This is fine for me but my people find it a little too small for their wrists. How I wish there was another size option, maybe a 44mm.

Price

The last con of the Pixel Watch is its price, which is quite high compared to other smartwatches. The Pixel Watch started at $349 for the WiFi-only model and $399 for the LTE model. This was more expensive than the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4, which starts at $249 for the WiFi-only model and $299 for the LTE model.

The Apple Watch Series 7 also starts at $399 for the WiFi-only model and $499 for the LTE model, but it offers more features and options than the Pixel Watch.

Luckily though, you can get the Pixel Watch for cheaper (between $199 and $250) since it has since been succeded by the Pixel Watch 2 which now goes for $349 and $399 for the WiFi and LTE models respectively.

Conclusion

The Google Pixel Watch is a smartwatch that has some pros and cons that you should consider before buying it. It has some great features like Google Assistant, Wear OS 4, and Fitbit Premium that make it a powerful and versatile device.

However, it also has some drawbacks like battery life and an ageing chip that may make it less appealing than other smartwatches. Ultimately, the choice depends on your personal preferences and needs. If you are looking for a smartwatch that integrates well with Google’s ecosystem and offers a lot of functionality, then the Pixel Watch may be a good option for you.

But if you are looking for a smartwatch that has a longer battery life, a more attractive design, or a lower price tag, then you may want to look elsewhere.
