In 2020, we saw a reboot of the Chromecast lineup from Google with the introduction of the 4K-capable Chromecast with Google TV released in 2020. This product came in the wake of a seemingly fragmented smart TV dongle with players like NVIDIA holding down the high-end segment, and Xiaomi, Amazon, and off-brand Chinese boxes clamoring for the mid-lower end segment.

Well, over the past few months, the rumor mills have been churning with reports of a budget Chromecast. Well, this is now official. A new product, Chromecast with Google TV HD, has been unveiled by Google. This product fits into the Tech Giant’s lineup beneath the $49.99 4K-capable Chromecast with Google TV released in 2020.

Of course, Google had to cut a few corners to get the price low enough. And yes, a few perks have been committed. This new product misses some features from the 2020 variant, including the commission of support for Ultra HD and Dolby Atmos.

This means that this streaming device is at par with tons of other 1080p products from the likes of Amazon, Xiaomi and Roku.

Like these other products, this Google Chromecast HD is aimed at persons that haven’t upgraded to 4K TVs in their home entertainment setups.

Just like the other more expensive Chromecast, this affordable Google Chromecast HD comes with support for Android TV apps from the Google Play Store, supports HDR, and also has the Google Assistant, invokable via the bundled remote control.

As mentioned, you also get a remote control bundled with the dongle itself. Also included is a power cable, an adapter, and AAA batteries for the remote in the box. These are enough to get you set up and going with this Chromecast HD all at a far more affordable price.

Pricing and Availability

The new Chromecast will soon be available in 19 countries and regions across the glove, including the U.S. This should go for around $30 in the US and around £34.99 in the U.K
